In this session, Dr. Patel explained the true meaning of empathy and sympathy. She explained that when a business model is designed with an aim to solve the problems of the customers who can emotionally connect with the business idea, it is more likely that the startup will have more attention from the customers, for example, Zomato and the movie Oxygen. Zomato has been successful because it solves the pain points of the customers. The pain points being - not having enough time to reach the desired restaurant, each family member wanting to eat something different, laziness to go to different restaurants to try new things, and more. Similarly, the movie Oxygen is also a brilliant illustration of people wanting emotional support and thus renting emotions as a business, solving the pain points of customers who are grandparents, little kids, sisters and many more.
