Finance Bootcamp December 03, 2021
Mr. Vikrant started the session by introducing himself and his ventures in the field of finance. He discussed the importance of understanding finance for startups, understanding the problem area, and developing a solution to the pain point in order to deliver it to the customer, the revenue model, understanding æunit economicsÆ, balance sheet and how a company can manage their assets and liabilities in the balance sheet rather than attributing them to the P&L, explaining how a B2C businessÆs marketing is cost-headed, understanding the CAP table, and many more... Mr. Vikrant explained how one should plan ahead for projects and plans and work on them in detail keeping in mind the little elements that would help in the long run in terms of hiring, cost management, and successful results. The 4-day workshop had many such in-depth discussions on required topics and the participants found them productive and useful.
Sambhav: entrepreneurship awareness session by MSME DI November 23, 2021
Under the guidance of MSME Development Institute (MSME - DI) Ahmedabad and in association with School of Liberal Studies (SLS), PDEU IIC organized a webinar on 'Sambhav'-National Level Awareness Programme (NLAP) on Entrepreneurship as a part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav (AKAM) on November 23, 2021. With the developing world and evolving technology, entrepreneurship is the future and with that aim, the webinar provided the participants with a detailed description on how to pursue entrepreneurship not just as a hobby but a platform to be your own boss. In the session, Shri Piyush L. Shah and Shri Vikas Gupta briefed the participants about the schemes people can enroll in and expressed the idea of entrepreneurship being accessible to everyone. Founders of two startups incubated at IIC, Mr. Shani Pandya and Mr. Aditya Shukla shared their journey from ideation to production along with the mistakes learnt along the way. The webinar witnessed 100+ participants and received a great response from future entrepreneurs.
Startup Showcase 2021 October 12, 2021
PDEU IIC organised its first physical event post COVID pandemic 20+ incubated companies, ôStartup Showcase 2021ö on October 12, 2021 as a platform for the start-ups to showcase their ideas and expose their products/ services to entire PDEU family. The event witnessed a total footfall of 500+ students, faculties and management of PDEU.
What do Intellectual Property Rights Mean? How to file an IPR? October 07, 2021
Intellectual properties are essential for any innovator, and understanding how to file them to protect them is even more necessary. Intellectual properties and the rights that protect them come in a variety of forms. The speaker started off with explaining the difference between inventions and innovations. Invention is creation of something new whereas innovation is creation, adoption and implementation. The session took an interesting turn when the difference between tangible and intangible properties were discussed. In the later part of the session, he briefed on why IPR is important, how it is useful for businesses and how the IPR system works in India.
Industrial Product Designing October 05, 2021
Ms. Kushboo began the session with the most basic question: What is Product Design? She then explained that product design focuses on conceptualizing a product/system/service that takes care of the userÆs needs and experience while fundamentally solving a problem relevant to its usage, making the product/system/service better to make, use and sell. Ms. Kushboo ended the session with some pictures of various products such as water bottles, earphones, etc., and discussed the aesthetics and CMF of the products. She also discussed a globally recognized case study - PillPack. Some of the other well-known case studies are Airbnb, Bank of AmericaÆs æKeep the ChangeÆ Campaign, IBM, Uber Eats, and PayTm. She talked about some of the benefits of considering design as an integral part of product development such as making the product more user-centric and relevant to the current market trends and design language.
From Product to PnL September 29, 2021
Mr. Anay Mashruwala began the interactive webinar by explaining what Product and PnL is. He highlighted the need to understand the journey from Product to PnL for entrepreneurs and researchers. He further explained the research objectives as well as approaches for developing a product. He explained how oneÆs user centric approach will help gain paying customer before the product is developed. He concluded the session by explaining using examples how journey to PnL comprises of Solution market and Revenue Generation Model. The session was insightful as well as informative and it witnessed 20+ participants on zoom and 10+ views on youtube.
Entrepreneurship: Building Innovations and Ideation September 24, 2021
Mr. Kataria started the session by interacting with the participants asking them their expectations when it comes to entrepreneurship and innovation. He also talks about the importance of jargons to start a business venture, he explained the participants that they eventually should be able to learn the language of the business sector they enter. The session moves forward talking about the startup ecosystem, Ideation stage, Proof of concept and stages involved in converting an idea into a product. Mr. Jatin further talked about the process of building a product. Lastly sir, explained the processes involved through his own examples and experiences. He advised all the participants to not be afraid to take risks or of failure. Overall the session was easy to understand, very interactive and informative. The webinar witnessed 50+ participants on zoom and 14 views on YouTube.
Business Valuation September 23, 2021
PDEU Innovation and Incubation Centre organised a session on 'Business Valuation' by Mr. Vikrant Potnis, director at Fortemagna Advisors and founder of FundEnable and IAVC. He started off the interactive webinar with explaining what the term valuation means, how to calculate the valuation of your company, pre-money and post-money valuation. He later explained the importance of valuation and told them how important it is for startups to be up to date with the methods and have an understanding of the valuation of their business. He then further explained debenture, CCD (Compulsorily Convertible Debenture) and dependency of percentage stake. Mr. Vikrant ended the session by giving them an idea of how to handle different situations by sharing tips for possible situations they could face in the future.
How to Ideate September 22, 2021
The session on 'How to Ideate' by Mr. Rohan Shah by PDEU IIC started by introducing Mr. Rohan Shah. Mr. Rohan started by introducing the process of mindset behind Ideation and explaining the real meaning of ideation. He explained the process of creative thinking to all the participants. Also, various activities were conducted to monitor and improve the thought process. At the end Mr. Rohan also answered questions regarding importance of teamwork, feasibility in ideation, importance of rational thinking and more. Overall the session it was an insightful session to learn the various aspects of ideation. Total 60+ participants in zoom and 120+ views on youtube.
Digital tools for Marketing Online September 16, 2021
The session organized by PDEU IIC on 'Digital Tools for Marketing Online' by Mr. Saurabh Pandey for all the inquisitive startups started on a really exciting note and with an introduction of the speaker and his achievements. Mr. Pandey talked about goals and strategies for optimising the search engine like social media, google ads, influencers, etc. He also mentioned various tools used for different activities such as knowing rankings, managing social media, generating content, optimising e-commerce stores etc. He gave brilliant ideas for content multiplication techniques. Overall the session imparted valuable knowledge of all the tools available for optimising the search engine and achieving goals. There were a total of 36 participants on zoom and 6 views on youtube for the session.
Entrepreneurship: The risks & Returns September 14, 2021
PDPU IIC organised a webinar on æEntrepreneurship : The Risks and ReturnsÆ for the students of SPM, PDEU. The speaker for the session was Mr. Milapsinh Jadeja (Founding Director, Iroller Capital Pvt Ltd). The session covered topics of an entrepreneurial journey and how it is different from everyone and can't be exactly defined. There are a lot of successful business and startups and we take an inspiration from them. He talked about the characteristics of an entrepreneur and how entrepreneurs should not be afraid to take risks. When they have a quest and curiosity to learn new things, they can explore better options for their venture, minimising the risks and maximizing the returns. The webinar ended with an insightful Q&A session. The event witnessed 100 participants on zoom and 70 views on YouTube.
Identifying Customer Pain Points and building solutions September 09, 2021
In this session, Dr. Patel explained the true meaning of empathy and sympathy. She explained that when a business model is designed with an aim to solve the problems of the customers who can emotionally connect with the business idea, it is more likely that the startup will have more attention from the customers, for example, Zomato and the movie Oxygen. Zomato has been successful because it solves the pain points of the customers. The pain points being - not having enough time to reach the desired restaurant, each family member wanting to eat something different, laziness to go to different restaurants to try new things, and more. Similarly, the movie Oxygen is also a brilliant illustration of people wanting emotional support and thus renting emotions as a business, solving the pain points of customers who are grandparents, little kids, sisters and many more.

Mr. Dave began his interactive discussion by filling it with engaging activities, the first of which was called æParallel UniverseÆ. Mr. Dave showed the participants a random object, in this case, a mango bite, and asked them to share all the possible uses they could come up with within 3 minutes. Mr. Dave moved on to share how one can dive into the world of entrepreneurship and used examples of Noble Prize winner, Muhammad Yunus and the case study of the iron fish to explain it further. Basics of Finance for your startup September 02, 2021
The session was taken by Mr. Vikrant Potnis. It covered talks about equity investment, few common pitches made for investment, calculating revenue and explained that assumptions play an important role while calculating revenue. He also explained calculating costs by bucketing them into three major heads: Marketing cost, Personnel cost, and Tech and other costs. Lastly, to put the final fund required together, Mr. Vikrant explained that they will have to bring all the revenue and costs to the P&L sheet and sum up the negative EBITDAs. He advised startups to make sure that the required fund amount is realistic - for the prototype or proof of concept stage a fund of 1 crore is a realistic amount and after that, it can go up to 7 crores.

PDPU IIC organised a æIIC: FounderÆs TalkÆ to help young founders understand the journey of a founder, including the hurdles and ways to covert challenges into opportunities. The interactive session also provided the budding startups interact with the founders of successful startups, meet the employees and interns of IIC and ask queries on the challenges faced.
Investor's Connect Program June - July, 2021
PDPU IIC, under the guidance of IC Dept, Government of Gujarat organized a ôPitch to Investorsö event in June - July, 2021 to bridge the gap between startups and investors for Gujarat-based startups. As a part of this initiative, PDPU IIC hosted a series of events for both startups and investors to supply them with information on the targeted investment talks, followed by a final pitching session that served as a performance platform for both parties. With this, the aim was to strengthen the state startup ecosystem, encourage the local angel investors and HNIs, to invest in start-ups and to help the business incubators of Gujarat to have insights from the investors and experts on how start-up investments work.
Let's Hack 4.0: Electric Mobility and Energy Storage System May 21, 2021 - July 10, 2021
PDEU and PDPU IIC organized Let's Hack 4.0, a 7-week long in-house hackathon, from May 21, 2021 to July 10, 2021, to inspire the students to ponder on the challenges, bring out novel solutions and further contribute to the society in the areas of Energy storage System and Electric Mobility for a sustainable India. The Hackathon not only put their knowledge to the test but also provided them an opportunity to network and learn from experts from industry and academia. The ongoing lockdown hindered the students to avail internships. PDPU IIC in association with SEC Global Consulting and Initiatives LLP, organised a special training program for its incubated start-ups with the aim to support the start-ups by helping them enhance their entrepreneurial skills and develop business acumen, to further take the product/service into the market. The 10-hour program majorly focused on three areas of business- The Business Plan, Go-to-Market Strategy and Financial Projections.

PDPU IIC organized a Startup Training Programme conducted by industry experts, Mr. Payank Patel and Mr. Ankit Joshipura with an aim to provide the startups with a heads-up for the challenges that are yet to come and help them prepare for the same. The program was 12 sessions long and was held both online as well as offline. It was a 360 degree training program for the startups wherein they learned the uncharted landscape to the journey of an entrepreneur. The 12-session program included sessions on Soft skill training, Managerial training, Marketing training, Personality training, Sales training & Financial training.

The aim of the session is to make the women from different domains understand the issues related to ideas, challenges, funds, and most importantly the highs and lows of being a woman entrepreneur in a male-dominant society. Business Plan Competition January 7, 2021 - February 7, 2021
Business Plan Competition is being organized to provide an opportunity to learn about entrepreneurship through the development and presentation of a business idea. As the participants get ready to step into the corporate world and work on live projects, the competition provides them an opportunity for the students of School of Petroleum Management (SPM) to define PDPU IICÆs incubated startup ideas in commercial terms and to compete to propose a business plan for their innovations. Webinars on æHow to write a B-Plan?Æ and æHow to make Financial Projections?Æ helped students understand the idea behind the competition and the importance of Business Plan. Furthermore, One-on-One Interaction with the Startups and Mentoring Sessions guided the students. 24 teams i.e 119 participants are registered for the B-Plan Competition. The teams are working alongside 7 startups incubated at PDPU IIC and formulating a Business Plan.
